Luca Gasperi Featured In Exhibit The St. Croix Avis Luca Gasperi, a 1990 Good Hope School graduate whose work is already in demand, will be offering some of his paintings at the Sixth Annual Caribbean Fine Art Exhibit scheduled for Feb. 12-15 at the Good Hope School Campus Center. Gasperi is a student at Parsons in New York City, sutdying graphic design, and has worked in many media, preferring the freshness and simplicity of watercolors. His paintings are inspired by the scenery of his home, St. Croix. Though unable to break away from school to attend the exhibit personally, he has asked his parents, Valeria and Kiko Gasperi, who have lived on St. Croix for more than 27 years, to represent him. Luca has shown artistic talent since elementary school, said his mother, Valeria, but his art teacher at Good Hope, Ms. Male, really helped him gain confidence and realize his full potential in painting. Lucas watercolor depicting the great house at Estate Cane Garden was the 1990 Virgin Islands winner of the Congressional Art Competition, which afforded him the honor of having his painting displayed in the Capitol corridor for one year. The painting was titled Capitol Crucian Forerunner, because the Cane Garden great house was designed by architect William Thornton, who designed the Capitol building in Washington D. C. Works by Gasperi and more than 40 other well-known Caribbean artists will be on display and for sale during the exhibit. The public is invited to attend a special artists reception and preview showing on Friday, Feb. 12, 6-9pm. Admission will be charged. Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 4pm, Feb. 13-14, as well as Monday, Feb. 15, 10am - 2pm. The show is sponsored in the interest of the arts by the Friends of Good Hope School, with proceeds benefitting the Good Hope Scholarship Fund. More than one-third of GHS students receive tuition assistance from this fund. The St. Croix Avis |
